Welcome 2018

Well... 2017 was not the best year... so let's welcome 2018 with all the promise it can hold!

I have decided not to do so many swaps this year, so I can make myself some awesome things I have been wanting!
So far.. I am off to a pretty good start!
I have finished Parseltongue.. a Harry Potter themed hat with little cables that look like snakes!

I have also finished Candy Cane Moonsookas.

These are both patterns available on Ravelry.
The hat was quite challenging... lots of cables!
The boots.. pretty easy really. I had the idea I wanted elfish type booties to wear around the house.. and then thought of these! Moonkoosas are always shown made in one color. If you make them in one solid color, you can make them in just a couple of days! Mine took three...with all the color changing I had to do. I love the funky fringe on them.  They are felted after knitting.. so, very soft and warm. I will add a sole as soon as I can find either white or red flip flops for cheap.
Next up on my list...
Zombie Mittens. This pattern was gifted to me. They are fair isle stranded mittens.. so,  they will take a bit more time. I estimate a week, but we will see.

Here is a list of the things I want to make this year....in no particular order...
Parseltongue hat 1/1/18 (began 12/29/2017)
Candy Striped Moonkoosas  1/1/18 -1/3/18
Circulate ... a beaded Dalek cowl
Hedwig shawl…shawl with stranded owl
Zombie mittens
Sculpture Dragon...big amigurumi dragon
Walking Dead zombie slippers
pink elephant ornament
tatted Misfit toy….Santa or Elf
tatted Jack Skellington
Wonder Woman Shawl
Grinch socks
Chewbacca mittens

Started last year…hope to also finish
dragon scarf
bat toy
Creepy skull shawl

Haha.. I know, pretty big list for me. But, I am working on it!

Lace Day 2017

Had a wonderful time at the Lafayette Lacemaker's Lace Day.
Though the attendance was much smaller than normal, we still had fun!
I arrived early in order to submit my entry in the lace contest. Since we had time, Carol Parry and  I took a walk to the local yarn shop, River Knits.  We both made a few purchases, then returned to the Lace festivities. There were raffles, and I won two during the first round. Mary Harris got very lucky and won TWO $25 gift certificates. Wow!
We chatted, shared stories, Brenda asked me to show her a different way to tat, which I did. She tats the way I used to, throwing the thread around, I showed her the new way I do it, more like a sewing machine working.
Later a few more people showed up. I did some shopping in the vendor's rooms, and had some snacks.
They had the lace contest ...I won second place! Yeah! I didn't expect to win as the other entries were so pretty. I won a $10 prize!
Then, the last of the raffles. I won...6 more! Wow what a haul!
Had a great day...thanks for the fun times ladies!
Winner of First prize Bobbin Lace Praying mantis
Winner of 2nd place Cecropia Caterpillar
Third Place Butterflies

More pics later!

Here is the lot of my raffle winnings. More closeups later...

Joyful house Elf has arrived!

Remember the Elf swap I mentioned in the last post?
Well... I received my Elf today! Her name is Joyful, and she is an House Elf!
She is sooo cute!. I want her to feel welcome in my house, so I will make her some socks this
evening!
She came bearing gifts, too! I cannot open the bag yet, as I have to wait until Christmas, but I did get this sweet Elf approved sign, mint chocolate lip balm, ppmint stick (!) and sixlets!
She even has a cool ball for Rebel.. which he loves by the way!
I may get to open the other little red package, but I am not sure yet. We'll see!
But for now, I am enjoying little Joyful so much!
A big thank you goes out to the Friends Crocheting Together and More group and especially CrochetfromChaos for making me this sweet Elf!!
